Ann Smith

Founder, Executive and Artistic Director

After serving nearly 20 years in the public and private school systems of Texas, Ann Smith is now dedicating her musical expertise to her creation of the 501 c 3 non-profit, Public Charity, the North Texas Metroplex Children’s Choirs Inc., which is the home of three unique Children’s Choirs: the North Texas Children’s Choir (1996), the Texas Youth Chorale (2013) and the Texas International Choral Festival (2016).

As the Founder, Executive and Artistic Director of the North Texas Metroplex Children’s Choirs Inc., Mrs. Smith’s vision is to continue to develop the anchor choir, the North Texas Children’s Choir, and to grow and develop the two new choirs, the Texas Youth Chorale and the Texas International Choral Festival Choir. With each of the choirs, Mrs. Smith embraces and dedicates herself fully to the mission of NTMCC, Inc. to: Share the language of the heart through musicianship, fellowship, relationship and leadership.

Mrs. Smith attended Kansas State University on a bassoon scholarship, sang in the KSU Concert Choir and studied Choral music with Rod Walker. After three years at K-State, Mrs. Smith continued her education at Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University, where she received a Baccalaureate of Science in Education (BSE) degree. She has also attended the University of North Texas to study oboe and Texas Woman’s University to study voice.

In 2003, the Denton High School Chorale was selected as a 4-A Mixed Honor Choir at the Texas Music Educators Convention in San Antonio, Texas. This same year, an invitation from the Pentagon was extended as well as an invitation to sing with the Kansas State University Choir at Carnegie Hall. Other guest choral singing invitations for her high school choirs have been received from some of the world’s greatest Cathedrals in England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Austria, France and the United States.

Mrs. Smith holds affiliations with the Texas Music Educators Association, the American Choral Director’s Association and Chorus America. In March of 2001, she was the recipient of the Bayard H. Friedman Hero award, and in February 2014, she received the Community Arts Recognition Award (CARA), presented by the Greater Denton Arts Council in Denton. She has been a guest clinician and conductor throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex area.
